What an epoxy countertop is
An epoxy countertop is a thick, self-leveling resin layer poured over a prepared base. While the resin is wet, colors are blended to create veining, stone patterns or abstract designs. Once cured, the surface is seamless, glossy and waterproof.
Popular projects
- Kitchen counter refresh over existing laminate
- Basement and home bars
- Bathroom vanities
- Wood and resin river bar tops
- Garage and shop workbenches
- Reception desks and retail counters
Our process
- Inspect the base for soundness and swelling.
- Sand, repair and prime.
- Mask cabinets, walls and floors.
- Pour base colors and add veining.
- Apply a clear flood coat.
- Cure, then reinstall fixtures.
Design ideas
White and gray marble looks brighten kitchens on cloudy days. Charcoal stone looks pair with modern cabinets. Greens and blues set in local wood slabs echo the forests and water outside. We bring samples so you can choose in your own lighting.
Durability
Cured epoxy is hard, waterproof and stain resistant. It is less heat resistant than stone, so use trivets for hot cookware. Use cutting boards to avoid scratches. The surface can be polished or recoated if it ever dulls.
Timeline
Most projects take two to three days. Surfaces must stay clear and undisturbed during cure.
Cost
Size, design complexity, base condition and whether we build new tops all affect pricing. A pour over existing laminate usually costs far less than new stone.
Wood and resin pieces
River tops combine a live-edge wood slab with a colored resin channel. They make great bar tops, islands and tables. We seal the wood, build forms, pour in layers and finish with a clear coat. These pieces take more time but become a centerpiece.
Workbench tops
A resin-coated workbench resists glue, paint and oil and wipes clean. It is a practical upgrade for a garage or hobby shop and pairs well with a coated floor.
Care
Wipe spills promptly, use coasters and trivets and avoid abrasive cleaners. A soft cloth and mild cleaner keep the shine.
Seeing it before the pour
Resin moves while it is wet, so no two tops are exactly alike. To make the choice easier, we create small sample boards in the colors you are considering and bring them to your home. Seeing them next to your cabinets, floors and backsplash, under your own lighting, is far more useful than photos. We talk about edge profiles, how the resin wraps over the front edge, how sinks and cooktops are handled and whether a matching backsplash makes sense. Once you approve a direction, we record the color ratios and techniques so the finished top follows the sample closely. Most customers say this step removed the guesswork. We also discuss how the counter will be used day to day, because a busy family kitchen and a once-a-week bar call for different finishes and care routines. Planning these details up front keeps the project smooth and the result something you will enjoy for years.
Bathroom vanities
Vanity tops are a quick, affordable epoxy project. A marble-look pour over an existing top can transform a dated bathroom in a couple of days without replacing cabinets or plumbing.
Is it food safe?
Fully cured countertop epoxy is generally considered food safe. We can share data sheets.
Can you pour over tile?
Sometimes, after grout lines are filled and the surface is leveled.
Is there odor?
Some during the pour, fading as it cures. We ventilate the space.
