What a flake floor is

A flake floor is a layered resin system. After the concrete is ground and repaired, we roll a pigmented base coat and broadcast decorative vinyl chips into it while it is wet. Once cured, we scrape and vacuum loose chips and seal everything with one or two clear topcoats. The result is a seamless, textured floor with a speckled look similar to granite.

Why it works so well in damp climates

  • Hides water spots. Drips from wet cars dry without leaving obvious rings.
  • Hides grit. Needles, dust and dirt blend in between cleanings.
  • Adds texture. The chip profile gives grip when the floor is wet.
  • Thicker build. Extra film thickness means better impact and abrasion resistance.

Full or partial broadcast

A full broadcast covers the base coat completely with chips. It gives the most texture, the most durability and the best ability to hide dirt. A partial broadcast scatters chips over a visible base color for a lighter, more modern look and costs a bit less. For a daily-use garage, we usually recommend full broadcast. For a home gym or laundry area, partial can be a great fit.

Choosing colors

Grays and charcoals are the most popular, often with a touch of white, tan or blue. Earthier blends pair well with wood siding and forest surroundings. Lighter blends brighten a dim garage on gray winter days. We bring physical samples so you can see them in your own light, which looks very different from a screen.

Our install process

  1. Moisture test and inspect the slab.
  2. Diamond grind with dust control.
  3. Fill and grind cracks and pits.
  4. Apply primer and pigmented base coat.
  5. Broadcast flake to the chosen density.
  6. Scrape, vacuum and apply clear topcoat.

Texture options

The more topcoat we apply, the smoother the floor feels. Fewer coats leave more texture and more grip. We can tune the texture to your needs, smoother for a living space and grippier for a garage where wet tires roll in daily.

Durability you can count on

Flake floors take hot tires, dropped tools, rolling toolboxes and constant wet and dry cycles. The clear topcoat resists oil, gas, brake fluid and most household chemicals. With proper prep, they hold up for many years.

Easy cleaning

Sweep or dust mop regularly. Rinse and squeegee mud and road film. Use a mild cleaner for grease. That is all it takes to keep a flake floor looking sharp.

Beyond the garage

Flake systems also work in mudrooms, laundry rooms, basement entries, covered porches and commercial spaces such as break rooms and restrooms. Anywhere water and dirt arrive, a flake floor makes life easier.

Flake size and blend

Flake comes in different chip sizes. Larger chips create a bold, speckled look and hide more. Smaller chips create a finer, granite-like texture. Blends mix several colors for depth. We help you pick a size and blend that suits the space, then confirm it with a sample before ordering material.

Is flake flooring more expensive?

Slightly more than solid color, mainly due to chip material and extra coats. Most people find it worth it.

Can I see it before choosing?

Yes. We bring physical samples to your quote visit.

Does it stain?

The topcoat resists most stains. Clean spills promptly for best results.
