What polyaspartic is
Polyaspartic is a type of polyurea coating. It cures much faster than traditional epoxy, is highly resistant to abrasion and chemicals and stays clear without yellowing in sunlight. Because of the fast cure, garages can often be finished in a day and returned to use the next day.
Advantages for homeowners
- Speed. Many garages are done in one day.
- UV stability. No amber color shift near open doors.
- Toughness. Excellent resistance to hot tires and abrasion.
- Cool-weather curing. It cures at lower temperatures than many epoxies, a real benefit in a mild, damp climate.
Our typical polyaspartic system
- Moisture test and diamond grind the slab.
- Fill cracks and repair damage.
- Apply a base coat, often with full flake broadcast.
- Scrape and vacuum loose flake.
- Apply a clear polyaspartic topcoat.
Why prep matters even more
Polyaspartic cures fast, which leaves less time for the material to soak into the concrete. That makes surface preparation critical. We diamond grind every floor so the coating can bond deeply. Skipping that step is why some fast-install floors fail.
Polyaspartic vs. epoxy
Epoxy is an excellent base coat with strong adhesion and build. Polyaspartic is an excellent topcoat with UV stability and abrasion resistance. Many of our best systems combine the two, an epoxy or polyaspartic base with a polyaspartic top. We will recommend what fits your slab and schedule.
Damp weather installs
Fall and winter can be cool and humid. Polyaspartic tolerates lower temperatures, but very high humidity still matters. We monitor conditions and dew point on install day and adjust timing as needed. Some installs move a day if conditions are poor. We would rather wait than compromise the floor.
Odor and ventilation
Polyaspartic has a noticeable odor during application. We ventilate the garage and keep doors to the house closed. The smell fades quickly as the coating cures.
Returning to use
Foot traffic is usually fine within hours. Parking is typically allowed after about 24 hours, depending on conditions. We give you exact guidance at the end of the install.
Care and maintenance
Sweep, rinse and squeegee as needed and use a mild cleaner. Avoid dragging sharp steel. That is it. The surface is tough and stays glossy for years.
Is a one-day floor right for you?
One-day installs work best on slabs that are in decent shape with normal moisture readings. Floors with heavy damage, old coatings or high moisture may need extra steps that add time. During the quote visit, we test your slab and tell you honestly whether a one-day schedule is realistic or whether a two-day plan would produce a better result. Either way, we explain the reasoning so you can decide with confidence.
Colors and finishes
Polyaspartic topcoats go over solid colors, partial flake or full flake. Gloss and satin sheens are available, and anti-slip additives can be mixed in for garages that see a lot of rain and wet tires. We bring samples so you can compare finishes in your own garage light before choosing.
Is polyaspartic worth the cost?
For a garage that gets sunlight or needs a fast return to service, many homeowners think so.
Can it go over existing epoxy?
Only if the existing coating is well bonded and properly prepared. Failing coatings must come off.
Is it slippery?
Flake texture and additives keep it grippy.
